Welcome to The Rocking Chair Corner. It serves as a kind of diary for me, an incomplete depository of pieces of my life, my thoughts, my joys, my sorrows. Sometimes I include pictures so that I don’t have to search for words. Once in a great while, I attempt to put into English feelings others expressed in their non-English writings, or into my language feelings others expressed in English. Join me in a circle of rocking chairs. Kick off your shoes, sip your wine or tea, relax, and enjoy.

When You Became Six
When the cottonwood leaves had turned yellow
In the sand-blown deserts of the Southwest
Where the air is crisp and the water’s clear
Your wish came true when we showed at the door
To lavish you with kisses and shower you with love
‘Was so fun to see you in delighted surprise
Our tired legs suddenly seemed all right
We rested and had you at our sides
We read about deserts and the ancient ways of life
We shared the pumpkin bread made in shapes of skulls
We took a walk at dusk to see the bats in flight
We dressed in costumes to go trick-or-treat
And put on scary make-ups for Halloween Night
Then it was too soon we had to say goodbye
We’ll keep the fun long after the autumn leaves wither and die

Your Legacy
I didn’t think you needed me at your funeral. But the legacy you left us is the circle of friendship among us. I’m glad I went. It is a gift for you, and a gift we receive from you. It is beautiful, unpretentious, pure, and sincere. Thank you, Cô, for bringing us together when you were alive and after you are gone. You are gone physically from us, but spiritually we have you inside us. You have inspired us to be larger in life. You have taught us the power of love and compassion and unification. Je t’aime. Toujours. Vraiment.

I Saw You Last Night
You came to say goodbye
You sat at my bedside
I was happy you remembered me
The moment was fleeting
But it warmed my heart
To see you once more
To hear your voice
To know you knew I cared
I should not dwell on the sadness
But happy for where you are
You’re not gone
In the hearts of those who love you
I shed my tears
For the regrets I held
With your permission
I will let them go
Because I love you so
Always I will love you so
Crying Heart
I cry out inside
I understand the cycle
But why does it have to be now?
I was still waiting for a trip
For the two of us
We’ll visit Russia
And all the places you wish to see
I appreciate the moments
I had with you in May
I didn’t want it to be the last time
We were together
I didn’t expect your leaving

My World You Stay
Must have angels at your feet
I hope sweet dreams never cease
Feelings of calmness never leave
Each passing day I think of you
You’re never alone that much is true
I wish I were nearer to you
My heart rejoices whenever I get to see you
I miss all the moments together we had
Whenever I do not get to see you
Though we live a few thousand miles apart
My love for you will not fade as time marches
I will remember your words and your thoughts
I will cherish your smiles and your laughs
I will keep your love and your touch
In my heart forever – In my world you stay

Summertime
She said Stay a while longer
So we sat
On the bench outside the Fellowship House
She recited poems
I talked of past and future events
And answered the same questions
Countless times
It was fine
It was a nice summer day
We enjoyed the sunshine
Hoping for a vitamin D supply
The breeze blew gentle air
On our faces
I could see
The happiness in her eyes
I said I’ll share our picture
She smiled
Together Again
When the heat is high
The crowd is large
And the virus protection is not in place
Yet magic happened
Because you were there
We had a swell time
Being together – Together again
